Keep it in check

You know, some things make so much sense when you say it over and over to yourself in your head. It's only when you're talking to a friend and when the words finally come out of your mouth do you realize how crazy you sound for even thinking such things.

It's Our Choice

My Friend Josh Shipp is one of the greatest communicators I've heard. He's only in his twenties but speaks around the country at high schools and is often a guest on MTV. Kids love him because he is funny and direct. Josh grew up in more than twenty foster homes, never knowing his real parents. And yet he is incredibly successful. I asked Josh why he's so healthy, so emotionally stable considering his childhood.

"Don, when something hard happens to you, you have two choices in how to deal with it. You can either get bitter, or better. I chose to get better. It's made all the difference."

--excerpt from "A Million Miles in a Thousand Years" by Donald Miller

If I could write my facebook status or tweet here on my blog, I'd simply say, "I'm DIGGIN' this book!!" :D Wow, and I thought I forgot how to read! :D

Then and Now

I've battled for my own heart and happiness and God has been good in letting me be victorious for the last few months.

Was talking to a buddy about how being a worship leader, you feel attacked on so many levels. Inadequate in so many ways and struggles with confidence are magnified. You're on the frontline and Satan wants to take you out quickly and painfully.

I feel like these last few months has been so fast-paced and yet I've crawled most of the way. Been on my knees more and not in terms of how much more I pray (but I do need to do more of that), but I feel the desperation is growing. Please God don't let me lose that...I'm prideful and definitely always think I can do it my own way. So easy to fall for that trap--I'm good at it. Keep me at your feet.

Liking this song right now. From the latest Flyleaf CD Memento Mori is their first single "Again:"

Try Hard

I'm putting too much effort into this really...just getting more and more sick and making my body weak. Really. Is it worth it?! Is it going to pay off??? Since when did I start working so hard and actually start taking work seriously?!?!

Another year has come and gone

Year 2 of my teaching career is finished. I can't believe how quickly time has passed by. Wasn't it just yesterday where I got into University and aspired to be a teacher? So young...so full of dreams. And now....???? :)

On the last day of school, a group of grade 1s were bringing in their visual journals to my classroom (*Note a visual journal is a collection of art projects that collect their work from grade 1 all the way up to grade 9. The book gets passed on to the next year every year. It's a great keepsake to see how a kid has developed in their art and their reflective writing*).

One of my students asked, "Are these kids giving you their journals because they're your students next year?"

"Could be," I said. "Could be."

Now after I said this, I looked at the grade 1s to see how they would react. Most were fine except one girl. Her eyes widened like she just had a horrific revelation. Oh little girl. If you only knew. If you only knew what was in store for you by having me as your teacher.

But until then....two months off! Yah! I plan on doing some exercise, reading and yes, even catching up on some valuable PS3 time!!!!

Oh and I will be catching up on tunes...like this one:

Boys (Lesson One) by Jars of Clay

Lesson one - do not hide
Lesson two - there are right ways to fight
And if you have questions
We can talk through the night

So you know who you are
And you know what you want
I've been where you're going
And it's not that far
it's too far to walk
But you don't have to run
you'll get there in time

Lesson three - you're not alone
Not since I saw you start breathing on your own
You can leave, you can run, this
will still be your home

So you know who you are
And you know what you want
I've been where you're going
And it's not that far
it's too far to walk
But you don't have to run
you'll get there in time
Get there in time

In time, to wonder where the days have gone
In time, to be old enough to
wish that you were young
When good things are unraveling,
bad things come undone
You weather love and lose your innocence

There will be liars and
thieves who take from you
Not to undermine the consequence
But you are not what you do
And when you need it most
I have a hundred reasons why I love you

If you weather love and lose your innocence
Just remember - lesson one

"I'm Still Here" by Vertical Horizon

I found the pieces in my hand
They were always there
It just took some time to understand
You gave me words I just can't say
So if nothing else
I'll hold on while you drift away
Cause everything you wanted me to hide
Is everything that makes me feel alive

Cities grow
Rivers flow
Where you are, I'll never know
But I'm still here
If you were right and I was wrong
Why are you the one that's gone
I'm still here
Still here

Seeing the ashes in my heart
The smile the widest
When I cry inside and my insides blow apart
I tried to wear another face
Just to make you proud
Just to make you put me in my place
But everything you wanted from me
Is everything that I could never be

Cities grow
Rivers flow
Where you are, I'll never know
But I'm still here
If you were right and I was wrong
Why are you the one that's gone
I'm still here

Maybe tonight
It's gonna be alright
I will get better
Maybe today
It's gonna be okay
I will remember

I held the pieces of my soul
I was shattered and I wanted you to come and make me whole
When I saw you yesterday
But you didn't notice
And you just walked away
Cause everything you wanted me to hide
Is everything that makes me feel alive

Cities grow
Rivers flow
Where you are, I'll never know
But I'm still here
If you were right and I was wrong
Why are you the one who's gone
And I'm still here
The lights go out, the bridges burn
Once you're gone, you can't return
I'm still here
Remember how you use to say I'd be the one to runaway
But I'm still here

Week 1 of Holidays

Just got home from a house warming party for Bo with some old friends. It was amazing. Just had a blast with some of our conversations and I'm amazed as I look back at how far we've gotten after all of these years. Congrats Bo on your place again and Happy Birthday dude!

I can't believe a week has gone by with no work. I feel like time is flying by. I had a dream last night that it was September and my new students came into my class. It was hectic and I was yelling at the kids and they weren't sure what to make of me because they didn't know my expectations. I can't believe that I'm already thinking about work....I am not when I'm awake...just in my sleep? LOL. Maybe subconciously I am itching to get back but I doubt it...I love it right now!! :) Thank you Jesus for the summer break!

A few more weeks 'til Comic Con....Can't wait!!! Still not sure if I'm going to camp. 50/50 right now but seems like Bo wants to go in 3rd week of August which might be the most convinient time....see what happens. I do want to see the cousins in Vancouver and Regina though. I love travelling. The main times I wish I were rich are when I desire to travel and realize I don't have the finances to cover them. Oh the places we could go.... oh well, for now, I can just dream and picture what may come to pass one day :)

Mmhmm....

It's been a few years, but I still love this song....

"The One I'm Waiting For"
By Relient K

The way that girl can break a heart
It’s like a work of art
And this is the worst part
She knows it

And she’s so confident
That she’s what everybody wants
But nobody wants
Her to know that

So fall back on all of your premonitions
And just learn to listen
To those that have more wisdom than you
And just stop
Putting so much stock
In all of this stuff
Live your life for those you love

And I’m still waiting for
You to be the one I’m waiting for

The way that girl can turn a head
Well she is such a threat
But don’t ever forget
She knows it

And she’s got it all
All figured out
And she won’t let you doubt
She knows it

I’m still waiting for
You to be the one I’m waiting for

Something tells me that this is going to make sense
Something tells me it’s going to take patience
Something tells me that this will all work out in the end

This Just in....

According to IGN.com, Guitar Hero is following in the steps of Rock Band!! And what--8 players!?!? Read on for all the info:

Guitar Hero World Tour Made Official
Activision spreads the word on the next installment.
by Ryan Geddes

May 22, 2008 - Activision made the details of the next full Guitar Hero game official in a news release today, confirming the info about the game revealed last week in Game Informer.

Guitar Hero World Tour will feature a set of instruments, including guitar, drums and microphone, and will allow players to compose, record, edit and share their own creations via an in-game studio tool.

"Guitar Hero has set the standard for music-based gaming and with Guitar Hero World Tour and the game's groundbreaking Music Studio, we are once again delivering unprecedented innovation that has the potential to revolutionize consumer generated music, much in the same way that video sharing hubs have driven user generated video," said Dusty Welch, Head of Publishing for RedOctane. "With the introduction of our advanced high-quality new wireless instruments, in-depth customization options and advanced online functionality, the game enables music fans and gamers globally to share in the most social and expressive music experience ever."

The Activision release re-iterates the details revealed last week and adds that the Guitar Hero World Tour will include Battle of the Bands mode which allows eight players to join online and challenge each other band-to-band.

World Tour will also offer downloadable content for the Wii, making it the first Guitar Hero game to do so.

it's here..this is it!!

It hasn't hit me yet that it's the long weekend. I just got out of the shower and it wasn't until a few minutes prior that did I realize that we get Monday off. :D

It also wasn't until that moment that I realized how self absorbed I can be. I look at the prayer requests and friends from around the globe...pretty URGENT ones and then I forget to pray about them? I forget even to pray for those closest to me about really big things which I know that even though they didn't ask, I could definitely pray for. I'm so forgetful. What's with me?

My memory is slowly getting worse. I forgot to remind my kids to study for their spelling test today. The surprise is that they did better corporately than they ever have!! :P

Speaking of which, my students have been getting on my nerves lately. I've become more sarcastic with them and mean. I don't mind being stern but that balance between stern and bully can be a fine line. I still love my kids though. :)

I got nominated by my coworkers to act as a liason between my school and union. I am on the subcommittee of handling grievances. I know me?! What the heck?! It was either that or collective agreement bargaining and I think I got the easy one!! :)

Found out what my raise is next year. I can't wait. Well--that is--if I get rehired. I think I find out before June 30th..go figure...last day of my probationary contract! :P

How does this candy survive?

I'm talking about Mike and Ike. I don't know anyone who buys this candy that often. I've never been out to buy junk food and seen a single person come out with a box of these. I've never known a person to say they have craved these. I can't say I've seen anyone standing in line at a convenience store and added this candy to their purchase as an add on. I'm not saying I don't like Mike and Ike. They're tasty.....but seriously, when's the last time you can say you bought them? :)

That's the Bottom Line

Some facts of life I've learnt as of late:

- they weren't lying--perspective actually does play a big part in how much you enjoy life

- having a sink in your classroom is one of the best blessings God can give

- God does provide caring and wonderful people in life, but we have to place ultimate satisfaction in Him instead of placing all these demands on others

- I can actually enjoy my job

- getting older means more hardships...it really doesn't get any easier

- God is GOOD!! He Never Lets Go of Me!! YES, even I needed the reminders...... :) PTL!!!

Meet me at the Crossroads, Crossroads, Crossroads....

Seems like no matter what I do, things don't get any less complicated. It's one crossroad after another and I find that God keeps calling me back to Him in prayer. I have been told by many people what to do at every fork in the road I've come across. I know I love asking for advice but accepting it is another story. I guess it's good in a way becuase I take into account what others say but ultimately I don't let others dictate what course of action I should take. Does it make things any easier? No. At least my decision won't have to be made for another few weeks. Decisions, decisions. Oh Lord God show me Your will.....

Tuesday, March 18, 2008

Hmmmm.....

My bro has told me that I think too much about things. I think that's true becuase any opportunity I have to relax, I ponder things and begin to worry. And when I overthink, I start to regret.

I also have the nature of being impulsive. I know this to be true because I have made decisions that make no sense. I follow my gut and then when I get a chance to ponder, I regret the rash decisions too.

So if I am screwed for overthinking and am screwed when I'm impulsive, what do I do? And an even bigger question: what the heck is wrong with me!?

This song really helps when I overthink about overthinking.... :(
